Best of New Delhi: A New Delhi Guided Tour Story with a Local Friend

A New Delhi Guided Tour was at the top of our wish list when my wife and I arrived in Delhi from Israel. With only half a day in the city, we wanted more than a standard sightseeing experience.

That’s when we found Go With Harry. From the moment we met, Harry’s warm smile, local knowledge, and engaging stories brought Delhi to life. He made us feel like friends rather than tourists and showed us the city’s history, culture, and hidden gems with genuine care.

What started as a short tour became one of the most memorable experiences of our journey through India.

First Impressions of India: New Delhi Guided Tour – A Day of Stories and Smiles with a Local Guide meeting an international tourist at hotel lobby with flowers

Meeting Our New Delhi Tour Guide at Taj Palace Hotel

After contacting Go With Harry, we quickly arranged a half-day New Delhi Guided Tour. To our surprise, Harry arrived at the Taj Palace Hotel within thirty minutes in a comfortable Toyota Innova Crysta, ready to begin our adventure.

We met Harry in the hotel lobby, where his warm smile and thoughtful welcome immediately made us feel at ease. As a kind gesture, he presented my wife with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, making our first day in Delhi even more special.

As first-time visitors to India, we had many questions. During our New Delhi Guided Tour, Harry shared valuable travel tips about local customs, food, safety, and getting around the city. His advice helped us feel confident and comfortable from the very start.

More than a guide, Harry felt like a local friend. His knowledge, professionalism, and genuine hospitality turned our New Delhi Guided Tour into a personal and memorable experience before we had even reached our first attraction.

New Delhi Guided Tour: Exploring the Magnificent Qutub Minar

First Impressions of India: New Delhi Guided Tour – A Day of Stories and Smiles International Tourists Exploring the Magnificent Qutub Minar with a local tour guide

As we drove through Delhi, our New Delhi Tour Guide shared a fascinating introduction to the city’s history, explaining how different dynasties, emperors, and cultures helped shape the capital over many centuries. By the time we reached our first destination, we already felt we had learned so much about Delhi’s remarkable past.

Our first stop was the magnificent Qutub Minar Complex, one of Delhi’s most celebrated heritage sites. Harry explained that the Qutub Minar is among the tallest stone towers in the world and was built more than 800 years ago by the early Sultans of Delhi. As we walked through the complex, he pointed out the intricate stone carvings, beautiful Arabic calligraphy, and architectural details that we would have completely missed on our own.

One of the most interesting parts of the visit was the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, where our guide explained how pillars from earlier temples were incorporated into the structure, revealing the many layers of Delhi’s history. His storytelling transformed ancient stones into living history.

We continued to the unfinished Alai Minar, where Harry shared the ambitious plans of Sultan Alauddin Khilji and the reasons why the tower was never completed. Nearby stood the famous Iron Pillar, a remarkable monument that has resisted rust for more than 1,600 years. As a scientist, I found this particularly fascinating and could hardly believe that such an ancient structure had survived for so long.

Throughout the visit, our New Delhi Tour Guide patiently answered our questions and even helped us capture some beautiful photographs together. What we appreciated most was that he never rushed us. After the guided walk, he gave us time to explore the complex at our own pace, allowing us to absorb the atmosphere and enjoy the experience in a relaxed way. It was the perfect balance between expert guidance and personal freedom—exactly what we had hoped for from a private New Delhi Guided Tour.

New Delhi Guided Tour to the Lotus Temple

Israeli couple feeling fun at New Delhi Guided Tour to the Lotus Temple with Delhi Tour Guide Half Day

Our next stop on the New Delhi Guided Tour was the beautiful Lotus Temple, one of the most iconic landmarks in India’s capital. At first glance, its stunning white marble petals reminded us of the famous Sydney Opera House, but our New Delhi Tour Guide explained the unique Persian-inspired architecture and the spiritual significance behind this remarkable monument. He introduced us to the teachings of Bahá’u’lláh, the founder of the Bahá’í Faith, whose message promotes unity, peace, and harmony among all people.

As we walked through the beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding the temple, we were impressed by the peaceful atmosphere and elegant design. The experience became even more meaningful because the Bahá’í World Centre is located near our hometown of Haifa in Israel, creating an unexpected personal connection during our visit to Delhi.

Inside the Lotus Temple, our guide invited us to spend a few quiet moments in meditation. Sitting in complete silence for ten minutes beneath the magnificent dome was a truly calming and memorable experience. For us, this was much more than a sightseeing stop—it was a moment of reflection and spiritual connection that became one of the highlights of our New Delhi Guided Tour.

New Delhi Guided Tour at Humayun’s Tomb

Half day New Delhi Guided Tour at Humayun's Tomb International Tourists were enjoying photos with Delhi Tour Guide

As we continued our New Delhi Guided Tour, complimentary cold bottled water kept us refreshed while we enjoyed watching the vibrant streets of Delhi from the comfort of our vehicle. Soon we arrived at the magnificent Humayun’s Tomb, one of Delhi’s most beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Thanks to our New Delhi Tour Guide, we smoothly entered the monument and began exploring its impressive gateways, grand courtyards, and elegant Mughal architecture.

As we walked through the complex, our guide shared the fascinating story of Emperor Humayun, his dream of building the city of Dinpanah at Old Fort, his struggles to reclaim the Mughal throne, and the enduring love between Humayun and his wife, Hamida Banu Begum. Listening to these stories reminded us of the romance and grandeur often associated with the Taj Mahal, making the monument feel much more personal and meaningful. It also brought to mind Becca’s Delhi tour story, where they described how Delhi’s historic monuments reveal not only the rise and fall of empires but also the human stories behind them.

Our guide patiently took beautiful photographs of us before giving us time to wander through the peaceful Char Bagh gardens at our own pace. Later, we relaxed beneath the shade of mango trees, watching playful squirrels while enjoying the calm atmosphere. Throughout the visit, our New Delhi Tour Guide answered every question with enthusiasm, transforming a simple sightseeing stop into a memorable journey through India’s rich Mughal history.

A Spiritual Experience at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib

A Spiritual Experience at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is enjoying by International tourists on a New Delhi Guided Tour with a local

After visiting Humayun’s Tomb, our New Delhi Guided Tour continued past the historic Old Fort to Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, one of Delhi’s most important Sikh shrines. Before entering, our New Delhi Tour Guide helped us cover our heads with scarves and explained the basic traditions of the Sikh faith. Walking barefoot into the complex immediately created a feeling of peace and respect.

Inside the prayer hall, we admired the beautiful golden canopy above the Guru Granth Sahib, the sacred scripture of Sikhism. Our guide explained its importance while devotional hymns were being sung by musicians, creating a calm and spiritual atmosphere.

Next, we visited the famous Langar, the community kitchen where thousands of people enjoy free meals together every day. We were amazed to see local volunteers preparing and serving food, demonstrating the Sikh values of equality and selfless service.

Our final stop was the sacred Sarovar, the large water reservoir beside the Gurudwara. Sitting quietly by the water, our New Delhi Tour Guide shared the story of Guru Har Krishan Ji and his service to the people of Delhi. Watching visitors from different cultures and religions gather here, we felt a powerful sense of unity and positivity.

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib was much more than a sightseeing stop. Its peaceful atmosphere, inspiring traditions, and the stories shared by our New Delhi Tour Guide made it one of the most memorable experiences of our visit to Delhi.

New Delhi Guided Tour with Street Food at Connaught Place

New Delhi Guided Tour with Street Food at Connaught Place Israeli couple is having great fun with Delhi tour guide

By this stage of our New Delhi Guided Tour, my wife and I were starting to feel a little tired, but we were still impressed by the enthusiasm of our New Delhi Tour Guide. Sensing we needed a break, he drove us to Connaught Place, Delhi’s famous colonial-era shopping district. As we passed the elegant white colonnades and arcades, I was reminded of Regent Street in London.

To our delight, our guide suggested trying some authentic Delhi street food. He stopped at a popular local shop and treated us to freshly made samosas, crispy and full of flavor, followed by warm jalebis soaked in sweet syrup. We also enjoyed a cup of ginger tea blended with traditional Indian spices, the perfect refreshment after a busy morning of sightseeing.

While we were enjoying these local specialties, our New Delhi Tour Guide shared the fascinating history of the samosa. He explained how this popular snack arrived in India centuries ago with merchant caravans traveling across Asia before becoming a favorite in the royal courts of Delhi. He also told us about David’s Delhi adventure, a traveler who explored the city with a local friend and discovered that some of his most memorable experiences came not from famous monuments but from simple moments spent sharing food, stories, and conversations with local people. Listening to this story while tasting freshly prepared samosas made the experience even more meaningful.

This stop at Connaught Place was much more than a snack break. It allowed us to experience Delhi’s vibrant food culture, learn about its history, and enjoy a genuine local experience that we would never have discovered on our own. Like David, we realized that exploring Delhi with a knowledgeable local friend or guide reveals a side of the city that many visitors never get to see.

Discovering the Hidden Mystery of Agrasen Ki Baoli

Discovering the Hidden Mystery of Agrasen Ki Baoli at New Delhi Guided tour feeling amaze

Leaving the busy streets of Connaught Place behind, our New Delhi Guided Tour took an unexpected turn into one of Delhi’s hidden gems. Down a quiet lane, our New Delhi Tour Guide stopped near a simple stone archway and invited us to climb a few steps. What appeared ordinary from the outside suddenly opened into a remarkable ancient stepwell known as Agrasen Ki Baoli.

As we carefully descended a few levels, our guide explained how this historic water reservoir once supplied water to nearby communities and served as an ingenious example of ancient water conservation. Surrounded by hundreds of stone steps, the atmosphere felt mysterious and timeless. To make the experience even more memorable, our New Delhi Tour Guide shared some of the famous legends and haunting stories associated with the Baoli. As bats and pigeons quietly occupied the upper arches, the setting became both fascinating and slightly eerie, making it one of the most unusual and unforgettable stops of our New Delhi Guided Tour.

Relaxing in the comfort of our air-conditioned vehicle, we continued our New Delhi Guided Tour past the magnificent Rashtrapati Bhavan, the former Viceroy’s House and now the official residence of the President of India. Our New Delhi Tour Guide shared fascinating insights into its colonial architecture and historical significance.

We then stopped at the iconic India Gate, one of Delhi’s most famous landmarks. While our guide captured some wonderful photographs for us, he explained how the memorial honors thousands of Indian soldiers who fought and sacrificed their lives during World War I. Standing before this grand monument and learning its history was a memorable way to conclude our New Delhi Guided Tour.

New Delhi Guided Tour Finale at Gandhi Smriti

New Delhi Guided Tour at Gandhi Smriti a international tourist couple feeling emotional

By now, my wife and I were feeling tired and ready to return to the hotel after an unforgettable New Delhi Guided Tour. As we drove through the leafy avenues lined with heritage bungalows, government ministries, and official residences, our New Delhi Tour Guide pointed out several important landmarks, including the National Museum, which he recommended for a future visit.

Just when we thought the tour was coming to an end, our guide slowed the car and suggested one final stop—Gandhi Smriti, the place where Mahatma Gandhi spent the last months of his life. Curious, we agreed. What followed became one of the most emotional moments of our visit to Delhi.

Inside, our New Delhi Tour Guide showed us Gandhi’s simple bedroom, his writing desk, personal belongings, and the modest surroundings that reflected his way of life. Walking through the peaceful gardens, we followed the final footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi to the exact spot where he was assassinated in 1948. Seeing the place in person was a completely different experience from reading about it in books or watching it in documentaries.

There was a special atmosphere at Gandhi Smriti that is difficult to describe. As we stood quietly reflecting on the life and legacy of the man known as the Father of Modern India, we felt a genuine sense of emotion and respect. Looking back, this unexpected final stop became one of the highlights of our New Delhi Guided Tour, and we were grateful that our guide encouraged us to visit before returning to the Taj Palace Hotel.

Harry is a brilliant guide. He speaks from the heart and shares his knowledge and passion for India. Often a guide will overwhelm you with names and dates as they trot you through the venues. But Harry has mastered the art of preparing you to enjoy the setting and then steps away, leaving you alone to take it in on your own terms. It makes the experience memorable and transformative.

My husband and I spent a wonderful day touring with Harry yesterday. He is very knowledgeable about the sights and people of India and is enthusiastic about sharing the knowledge with others. This was our first time in India and the day with Harry gave us amazing insight into its ancient, complex and fascinating culture.

He picked us up with a car and driver at our hotel. We spent several hours at the huge National Museum where Harry used the collection there to illustrate the history of India. We had lunch at a local restaurant and afterwards visited the very interesting Qutub Minar complex in South Delhi. Then we spent the rest of the afternoon at the Mehrauli Archeological Park where we visited several sites.

Throughout the day Harry was a storyteller, bringing to life the history of India. He was a considerate and perceptive guide. I would strongly recommend his services to all visitors!

We were paired with Harry through Bout India, our tour company. In Delhi, we loved working with Harry. He was knowledgeable, experienced, and catered our time in Delhi to our every wish. One particular highlight was eating some delicious paranthas that Harry seemed to conjure from thin air amid the souk-like maze of Chowdi Chouk. Great day exploring the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and more!
I had the opportunity to visit New Delhi for two days and Harry and Indy were excellent at providing timely itinerary visits, they both executed a very professional visit.

Harry provided a very comfortable mini SUV to pick me up at the airport, and a comprehensive city tour! He went above and beyond when I needed to buy a head torch which we were not able to find easily … he was able to find out in the 2nd day and return back to my hotel to gift it to me!
Feeling gratitude for a great visit thanks to Harry!

I have had the pleasure of being looked after by Harry on an organized group tour and, more recently, on a private tour. Harry was an outstanding guide for our 10 day visit to Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and Udaipur. His English is exceptional as is his knowledge of history, religion and political background of the sites visited ensured we appreciated what we saw. He was open to meeting our expectations to include additional cultural sites and experiences. We left India 🇮🇳 feeling we had truly “seen” the beautiful country it is. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending him.

We had a great time with Harry during our tour in Delhi. Harry was knowledgeable, personable and we really enjoyed his company. Harry took an effort to modify the itinerary to meet our specific needs, which made our experience even better. During our tour we had an opportunity to visit a local market and sample local cuisine, which was a great opportunity to learn about a vibrant part of North Indian culture. We also enjoyed spending time together at the red fort and saw a historical light show that we highly recommend to anyone visiting Delhi. Overall we had a great time and could not have asked for more. Harry is really passionate about his profession and is a perfect guide for the city.

Our small group of 20-30 year olds from Australia had Harry for our 3 days in New Delhi as part of our Bout India tour and he was an absolute gem!

He made us feel very welcome to the city and shared an immense amount of information about its history, culture, and lifestyle.

Our highlights were him taking us to many hidden food gems around the city (chai, safe DELICIOUS street food, lots of somosas and much more), and him introducing us to the Holi festival customs and how to spread the colour! He was also really happy to adapt his tour based on your requests, you only need to ask!

Thanks again Harry it was a whirlwind 3 days!

He was extremely knowledgeable about India and its various transformations across the centuries. Gave us insights to the current political climate and the changes since independence. Influence of Gandhi is still all around.

Rarely you come across a guide who is truly in love with his job. For Harry, being a tour guide is just not a profession but I would rather say, it is his passion. Harry was very informative and patient with us. He would crack us up with his jokes and at the same time give us an insight into the history of the monuments and the city. He would insist on spending time at each site and soak in the beauty and the splendor of the monuments and its surroundings before we moved on. Harry made our September - October 2023 trip to Delhi memorable.
