From Qutub Minar, we continued to Humayun’s Tomb.

After the noise and energy of Delhi, the gardens felt wonderfully peaceful.

I was fascinated by the symmetry of the building—the red sandstone, white marble and perfectly balanced gardens.

Harry explained how the Persian-inspired architecture influenced later Mughal monuments, including the Taj Mahal.

That made me even more curious about what we would discover in Agra.

Delhi was introducing us to stories that would continue into Agra.

We also stopped at the Lotus Temple and drove past India Gate.

These places showed us another side of Delhi.

The city wasn’t just about ancient monuments. It was a mixture of history, modern India, spirituality, government, traffic, families, markets and everyday life.

And I loved that Harry never made us feel that we had to hurry from one attraction to another.

Red Fort and the Madness of Old Delhi

Our next stop was the Red Fort.

Inside its enormous sandstone walls, Harry brought the Mughal era to life.

He told us about royal ceremonies, emperors and the legendary Peacock Throne.

But for me, the real adventure began after leaving the fort.

We entered Old Delhi.

Suddenly everything became louder, closer and more colourful.

We climbed onto a cycle rickshaw and entered the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk.

There were people everywhere.

Shopkeepers called to customers. Motorbikes squeezed through impossibly narrow spaces. Spices filled the air with wonderful aromas. We saw samosas, jalebis and countless foods I had never seen before.

I remember laughing because I had no idea what was happening around me.

But I wasn’t frightened.

Harry was beside us.

He knew where we were going, knew the streets and knew which food stalls were trusted.

That gave me the confidence to simply enjoy the experience.

At the end of the evening, Harry asked us what we thought of Delhi.

Brad looked around at the chaos and smiled.

Day 3: Agra – The City of Eternal Love

The following morning, we left Delhi for Agra.

As the city disappeared behind us, the scenery gradually changed.

We saw green fields, villages, roadside tea stalls and farmers beginning their day.

For the first time, I felt that we were seeing a different India beyond the major cities.

After breakfast, we visited Agra Fort.

The enormous walls and grand courtyards were impressive, but Harry saved the most emotional story for the end.

He took us to a marble balcony overlooking the Yamuna River.

And there, in the distance, was the Taj Mahal.

Harry explained the story of Shah Jahan’s final years and how he spent his last years confined within Agra Fort, looking toward the tomb of Mumtaz Mahal.

I stood quietly at the window.

The Taj Mahal suddenly looked completely different.

Earlier that morning, I had seen it as one of the world’s most beautiful monuments.

Now I saw it through the eyes of a man who had lost the woman he loved.

I knew I would remember that moment for a very long time.

Sunset at Mehtab Bagh

That evening, Harry took us across the river to Mehtab Bagh, the Moonlight Garden.

The crowds were far behind us.

We sat quietly beside the Yamuna as the sun descended.

The Taj Mahal gradually became a silhouette against a sky filled with gold, orange and violet.

There was no schedule to rush us away.

Day 4 & 5: Jaipur – Entering the Land of Kings

The road from Agra to Jaipur brought another transformation.

The colours became brighter.

Pink buildings appeared.

Women wore vivid red, orange and yellow saris.

The landscape changed as we approached Rajasthan and the Aravalli Hills.

If Delhi had felt like India’s historical heartbeat and Agra like its great love story, Jaipur felt royal.

Hawa Mahal – The Palace of Winds

Our first stop was Hawa Mahal.

I remember standing across the road and staring at its extraordinary honeycomb-like façade.

Hundreds of small windows covered the pink and red sandstone building.

Harry explained that the famous jharokhas allowed royal women to observe life and festivals in the streets without being seen.

Then he explained something I had never heard before—the natural airflow created by the design.

I loved that.

The beauty wasn’t simply decoration.

There was intelligence behind it.

Amber Fort – A Palace Hidden Behind the Walls

Next we travelled outside Jaipur to Amber Fort.

The fort looked imposing from the outside, with its defensive walls stretching across the hills.

We stopped to admire the views before entering the Sheesh Mahal—the Mirror Palace.

And the masala chai we shared with Harry.

Eventually, our journey came to an end.

At Delhi Airport, our bags were packed and the same city where our adventure had begun was now where we had to say goodbye.

I remember looking back at Harry and realizing how much had changed.

When he first met us, we were two tired travellers stepping nervously out of an airport.

Now we were leaving with hundreds of photographs, stories we could tell for years and memories that felt much more personal than anything we had expected.

We hugged Harry.

There were smiles, a few emotional moments and one final wave.

As our journey ended, I realized something.

We had travelled thousands of kilometres through Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.

But the distance that mattered most was the one we had travelled emotionally.

We had arrived as visitors.

We left feeling that we had experienced a small part of India with someone who had welcomed us into his world.
